Bonanza Farm History, Farm Machinery, Red River Valley Grain Farm Tour
This tour is available each year during the second full week of September. The first day of this two-day tour will feature a half day at Big Iron, the largest machinery exposition in the upper Midwest. Here, every U.S. machinery manufacture is represented showcasing the largest and latest in farm machinery design and technology. Tour participants will also visit Bonanzaville, a history museum complex featuring forty-seven buildings on 12 acres showcasing the heritage of the Red River Valley. The day will conclude with a tour of the Case IH Tractor Manufacturing Plant. On the second day, the tour will travel to the southern Red River Valley to visit the Bagg Bonanza Farm, North Dakota’s only restored bonanza farm. Here, tour participants will learn about bonanza farm life and the past generations that changed the Red River Valley from the country’s furthest outpost to a settled, prosperous farming community. This tour will also feature stops at two modern Red River Valley farms where tour participants will have a chance to visit local farmers about their operation and witness small grain, row crop and sugar beet production first hand. These farm visits will also stress the importance of biosciences on today’s modern farming operations. Cost; $300/person with a 5-person minimum.
Sugar Beet and Potato Production, Machinery and Processing Tour
This one-day tour includes a visit to Amity Technology where the latest in sugar beet harvesting and transport equipment will be featured. This tour will also include an overview of the American Crystal Sugar Company which is an agricultural cooperative where growers who grow and harvest sugar beets own the company and factories that make their products. A driving tour of the Crystal Sugar factory in Hillsboro and a tour of the NoKota Packers Potato processing facility will be included. This tour will also visit two modern sugar beet and potato farms where the value of biosciences to a modern farming operation will be discussed. This tour is available during spring, summer or fall months. Cost; $150/person with a 5-person minimum.
Animal Agriculture and Research in Eastern North Dakota
This tour is available each year during the second full week of September. The first day of this two-day tour will begin with a partial day at Big Iron, one of the largest machinery and farm equipment displays in the U.S. Time will be allocated to visit Bonanzaville, a major rural historical setting featuring 43+ acres with 47 buildings depicting rural America in the late 1880’s and early 20th century. The second day will be programmed to visit livestock research facilities at North Dakota State University along with two beef cattle and/or dairy operations in eastern North Dakota. The type of livestock operation to visit will be based on the interests of the tour group. This tour is available during spring, summer or fall months. Cost; $300/person with a 5-person minimum.
